S. Giuseppe Cafasso's bell tower

Built not far from the Royal Palace, the church of S. Giuseppe Cafasso was know as S. Giorgio in Kemonia because there was a river with the same name. Its origin are very ancient, around IV century, rebuilt during the normann time and renominated to S. Giuseppe Cafasso, protector of prisoners for the near benedectins prison.

The bell tower is built next to the facade, almost twenty meter high, dates back to the second half of XVI century, after climb a spiral stairs you arrived to the top. From here you can have a close-up view to the cloister of S. Giovanni of Eremiti with its particular red domes. Started from the front we can recognize the Royal Palace, follow from left to right: the tower bells of the Cathedral, Ss. Salvatore's dome, S. Giuseppe of Teatini's dome, S. Caterina of Alessandria's dome, Casa Professa's dome and Carmine Maggiore's dome.
