Built in the middle of Ballaro's market, the church of Carmine Maggiore shows a dome with majolics and stucco, visible from different parts of the city.

The present day tower bell it's not the original, three more were built in the same place, the first in 1620, the second in 1670 and the third in 1740 designed by the architect Francesco Ferrigno and made by Salvatore Puglisi. With the lowering of the square, the tower bell had some structure problems that forced the friars to destroyed it in 1883 and rebuilt in the present day shape. Its has three square floors, which first is next to the interiors floors.
From the tower bell you have a close-up view to the dome that give the feelings of almost touch it. It has three order: tambour, vault and small lantern. On the tambour four double columns in stone covered in stucco, with dorics capital with fruits and flowers. Between the columns, four telamons that seems to keep the dome with their force.
