S. Francesco Saverio's tower bell

The church of S. Francesco Saverio was built in 1684 from Jesuit's will, by the architect Angelo Italia which also belongs to the order. Builted in one of the historical center of the city, the Albergheria and in one of its market: Ballarò.

The facade is divided into two orders, in the middle a central dome bigger than the two on the side. Next to the dome is the tower bell, almost thirtysix meter high, are the concav and convess shapes to makes dynamic the prospect. In the original project there was also a second tower bell but it was never realized. After climb one hundred steps you arrived at the top where you can admired not only the Ballaro's market but also the historic center of the city made by domes and tower bells. From here we can have a look of the city, we can see the Pellegrim Mountain, places of devotion of S. Rosalia the Saint patron of the city, the Ss. Salvatore's dome, the Cathedral, the S. Giuseppe of Teatini's dome, the Casa Professa's dome and the Carmine Maggiore's dome.
